Summer is almost here, and Summer means vacation. It’s almost time, folks, so it’s time to start planning. While the standard list of items to plan includes accommodations, transportation, and destination, some vacations can call for something extra. That something extra is fitness. That’s right, some vacations can involve hiking gear, climbing, or other strenuous activities, and so you may need to shape up for your trip. Here are a few tips to get your body vacation ready.
If you’re going to be hiking, you’re going to want to be able to hike casually. This can start with simply walking a mile a day until it’s like nothing to you. Then, you’re ready to hit the wilderness. Your goal here is the same. Hike a mile a day until it doesn’t phase you. Then, you should be ready to hike most places reliably, so you can make the most of your hiking trip.
If you’re going to be climbing during your trip, then you’re going to have to get some practice in advance. Consider going to a gym to practice on a climbing wall. This will both prepare your body for the work and prepare your eyes to identify hand and footholds with which to lift yourself up. Once this becomes easy, it’s time to take it outside. This will require the same equipment you’d be taking on your trip, so you should already have it, but if you don’t, now’s the time to get it.
If you just need to be more generally fit, hitting the gym on the regular is a great option. Gyms provide a wide range of equipment tailored to work out pretty much every part of the body in some way, and they can provide trainers if you find yourself not knowing how to get started or how to get motivated. If you aren’t yet a gym member, consider a gym like 24 Hour Fitness to help you get fit for your vacation.
